Ten-minute orientation

From blank table to first meaningful roll.

This quickstart assembles the minimum path through the current working rules. Where detail matters, it links directly to the canonical chapter.

01

Gather the table

One Guide, one or more players, Narateer Dice or ordinary d8s, character sheets, and somewhere to take notes.

02

Make a person

Choose an Origin, a Bloodline, Vitals, Skills, and one of the five current Classes: Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Witch, or Cleric.

03

Build the pool

State your intent, choose the relevant Skill, spend Action Dice, and add Boost Dice up to the Skill Level.

04

Count the dots

Each Narateer d8 shows a critical hit, a hit, or a miss. Count the dots and compare the total with the Difficulty Rating.

First scene

The sealed wayhouse

Rain has driven the party into an abandoned wayhouse on the Shatterholme road. The front door locks behind them. Beneath the floor, something rings a handbell once—and waits.

The immediate problem

Find a safe way out, discover who is below, or make the wayhouse defensible before the thing outside reaches the windows.

Use the rules

  • Investigate the room with a Skill Check.
  • Spend Action Dice to push a risky attempt.
  • Use distance bands if characters split up.
  • Let failure change the situation rather than stop it.

Guide note: This is a deliberately system-light starting frame, not yet a finished published adventure. It gives the current rules somewhere concrete to happen.
