Ceiban Bloodline

Ceiban details

Bloodline Traits

  • Vitals Adjusted: Gain +1 to any Vital of your choice.
  • Popular Classes: Any.
  • Languages: Ceiban, Trade.

Adapt on the Fly

Once per Rest, after a Ceiban fails a Skill Check, they may add +1 dot to the final result and recalculate the outcome. This may turn the failure into a success or improve its Degree of Failure.

Adaptable Skills

When a Story Milestone is resolved, a Ceiban may reduce one trained Skill by 1 level and increase a different Skill by 1 level. The receiving Skill cannot exceed its Linked Vital or be higher than the source Skill was before the transfer.

Physical Characteristics

  • Height: Males commonly stand 155–190 cm; females commonly stand 145–180 cm.
  • Weight: Males commonly weigh 50–100 kg; females commonly weigh 40–90 kg.
  • Maturity and Lifespan: Ceibans reach physical maturity around 18 years and typically live 70–90 years.
  • Eye Colour: Most commonly brown, amber, hazel, or green.
  • Hair: Most commonly black or dark brown, often worn long and adorned with feathers, beads, or carved jewellery.
  • Unique Traits: Skin tones vary widely, with rich brown tones common. Ceremonial body paint, ritual scars, and animal or jungle motifs frequently record community, deeds, and spiritual obligations.

History and Current Status

  • The Sundering and the Ceiba Tree’s wild growth made the Ceiba fragment volatile, alternating between prosperity and ruin. Shaman-kings established brief kingdoms before each collapsed.
  • Wars and power struggles remain constant as leaders compete for resources and mystical energy.
  • Today, Ceibans act as shamans, warriors, and kings who wield the chaotic energy of their jungles and swamps.
  • They guide outsiders through volatile lands and maintain the fragment’s balance, sometimes sacrificing their own to ensure prosperity.

Personality Traits

  • Fierce and Resilient: Ceibans embrace the jungle’s duality of creation and destruction.
  • Spiritual and Cyclical: They see life as bound to endless cycles of growth and decay.
  • Pragmatic and Adaptive: They shift strategies and loyalties whenever survival demands it.

Cultural Traits

  • Values: Connection with nature, balance, and power. The jungle is both life-giving and destructive, to be respected and controlled.
  • Social Dynamics: Shaman-kings rule through knowledge of the jungle’s cycles. Power changes hands as leaders rise and fall according to their command of chaos.
  • Traditions: Ritual dances and blood sacrifices to K’awiil and Chac invoke rain or fertility, while offerings seek the favour of jungle spirits.
  • Religion and Beliefs: Ceibans revere K’awiil and Chac, gods of fertility and rain who embody the jungle’s volatile cycles. Tales of the Serpent Lords warn that even the strongest shamans can be consumed by chaos.

Relationships With Neighbours

  • K’aan: Competitive and mistrustful rivals who dispute sacred sites.
  • Ahwatans: Cooperative guardians joined by respect for nature.
  • Acacians: Hostile rivals divided by resource disputes, despite grudging respect.
  • Crannach: Tense respect; differing approaches to preservation cause skirmishes but restrain open conflict.
  • Boabans: Wary allies who trade despite conflicting views of land.
